The story of Living Hope Presbyterian Church cannot be told without first understanding the rich and enduring legacy of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, a legacy that stretches back nearly two centuries and forms the very foundation upon which our local congregation stands.
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Ghana’s oldest continuing church, traces its origins to 18th December 1828, when the first Basel Mission missionaries arrived at Osu (Christiansborg). Though the early missionaries faced tremendous hardship, many perishing from malaria and yellow fever in a land then grimly called the “Whiteman’s grave”, their determination never wavered. It was the arrival of Caribbean Christian families in 1843, at the invitation of the King of Akuapem, Nana Addo Dankwa I, that finally turned the tide. These Caribbean Christians brought with them evangelism, spirituality, education, and a deep commitment to community, values that continue to define the PCG to this day.
